The Benefits Of Breastfeeding

After much research of the debate of breastfeeding vs formula, I have put together the following information below to show why breastfeeding is crucial for infant development, and postpartum healing for the mother.

*Artifically fed babies are getting too much milk the first few days.

*Babies fed formula have higher problems of

-Respiratory disease

-Diarrhea

-Ear infections

-UTI'S

-Menegitis

-SID'S

*Infant formula increases death during 1st year by 27%

*Baby's first three months, formula fed babies increase mortality by 61%

*Adults who were formula fed as babies are at risk for

-Allergies

-Asthma

-Chrons Disease

-Diabetes

-Hodgkins disease

-Childhood lukemia

-Celiac Disease

-Childhood cancers

-Obesity

-Breast Cancer

*Colostrum acts as the first immunization for the baby

*Babies fed formula will be missing many ingredients essential for normal body function

*Colostrum kills microorganisms and block inflammation. Babies who don't breastfeed suffer from immune-system deficiencies.

*Colostrum encourages the growth of good bacteria (bifidus flora) and seals your newborns gut to prevent harmful bacteria from sticking to it and penetrating.

*Breastfeeding is good for the baby's brain development.

-Non BF babies were 30% more likely to have gross motor delays

-40% more likely to be developmentally delayed (NON BF)

-Human milk has the right mix of fatty acids important for brain development (omega-3 fatty acid DHA)

*Formula companies come up with another "new" ingredient to make formula "more like mother's milk". Vital, living parts of human milk could never survive the canning process. Hundreds of ingredients in human milk is missing from formula.

*Moms who don't breastfeed are at risk for postpartum hemorrhage, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrom, and cancers of the breast, uterus, and ovaries.

*Breastfeeding provides a more gradual postpartum hormonal shift (prevents postpartum depression).

*Formula itself costs $1,200 a year not including the bottle supplies.

*Demerol (used as a pain reliever during labor) and short seperation after birth can cause a short-circut in the short term baby's breastfeeding reflexes.
